The Nice and Accurate Thoughts of Ben Eubank

Hello! It’s been quite a week! We have the beginnings of Dominique Laveau Voodoo Child and Supercrooks; as well as the end of Kick-Ass 2 and the crossover of Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes. There are a bunch of other great issues this week as well that did not disappoint. Read on dear reader!

Infinite Vacation – The fourth issue of Infinite Vacation was great. It introduces the idea of “boxing” universes. Boxing universes deemed as threats allows multiversal travel to remain safe and fun. Mark wakes up confused in a universe where he has married and had a child. After getting some help from his alternate-wife Claire, he decides what to do to save his Claire. Meanwhile, back at the Infinite Vacation Corporate Headquarters, we discover what is being planned to get rid of Mark. I’m really looking forward to how this will end next issue. If you haven’t read this series yet, I highly recommend it! 5/5

Batman Beyond Unlimited – The second issue opens with the Gotham City arc. We get some more back story on Terry’s ex-girlfriend’s brother and Bruce Wayne brings some familiar faces into the mix. Honestly, this arc isn’t doing too much for me. However, the second arc featuring Justice League Beyond is holding my interest. The League travels to a place called Dinosaur Island to find Micron but things go badly. We discover things about the bad guys and I want to see what’s going on. 2/5

Catwoman – It didn’t take Catwoman too long to start stealing things and getting in trouble again after what happened in the first arc. In this issue, she almost gets caught by the police but escapes with a new friend. There’s something corrupt going on in the police force so I wouldn’t be surprised if this new friend is working for them. We’ll see what’s going on soon! 3/5

Dominique Laveau Voodoo Child – The first issue of this new Vertigo series was interesting. The story starts up with Dominique being chased by something that murdered her friends. It then continues to Dominique being pulled into some sort of flashback to the Court of the Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau. This is the start of the mystery as to who Dominique is and what she is capable of. It will be interesting to see how this new series develops and how dark it will get. 4/5

Green Lantern Corps – The seventh issue of this series was a bit of a letdown if I’m to be completely honest. It continues to wrap up what happened with the battle with the Ringslayers. The issue primarily focuses on John Stewart reconciling with himself what he had to do to protect Oa and the universe. It is important to see these things but unfortunately, it didn’t do anything to advance the new story arc. 2/5

Justice League – Issue seven shows us how people think of the Justice League and how distrustful the government is of them. It also introduces us to Steve Trevor… who is in love with Wonder Woman. It was a pretty good issue but I’m unsure about the art… it felt different and I’m not sure how much I like it. Also at the end of this issue, the new story with Shazam begins! 3/5

Kick-Ass 2 – The final issue of Kick-Ass 2 is out and what an issue it is! The final battle in New York ensues and no one is safe. The issue does a great job pulling you in and keeping your attention… it also makes you really feel for some of the characters. I loved this series a lot and can’t wait for the next one! 4/5

Legion of Super-Heroes – This issue continues the fighting in China with Dragonwing and her sister’s faction. It also shows the Dominion plotting something that involves clones and Daxamite DNA. I can’t wait to see how this turns out. There’s also a reference to the Solstice from a few issues ago so I think that will be coming more into the storyline as well soon. I’m looking forward to the many storylines to come together soon. 3/5

Memorial – The fourth issue of Memorial introduces us to a host of new characters and explains much more about the Everlands. We find out that Moment can take people’s shadows and cause them to lose their memories; which is what was apparently done with Em. We also see some characters start to realize there’s much more going on than they originally thought. I consistently like this book… it’s reminiscent of The Sandman universe. 4/5

Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes – This month gave us the final issue of this crossover. It ended logically but it felt quick… and it left me wondering what Q did or knows. I really liked the story and the art of this series. I’m looking forward to the next crossover from IDW — Doctor Who / Star Trek: The Next Generation! Given how I felt about the Star Trek / Legion of Super-Heroes crossover, I will probably jump with excitement when the next crossover begins in May! 4/5

Supercrooks – This is the first issue of Supercrooks from Mark Millar. The idea of the story is that since there are so many superheroes in America, why keep being criminals here when you can go to another country without superheroes? Makes sense, right? The story begins with a man named Johnny getting put back in prison for a robbery. Then, five years later, his mentor comes to him in need of money… and quickly. I like the idea of this book and am looking forward to the second issue. 4/5

Supergirl – This month’s Supergirl picks back up with her battle with the Worldkillers. She is ultimately able to get them to leave Earth for the time being… but they’ll be back. We find out more of their origins and are left with another big mystery. 3/5

Wonder Woman – The great art of Wonder Woman is back! In this issue, we see Diana visit Hephaestus in search of weapons to use in Hell to get Zola back. Some more of her world is changed when she discovers what happens to the male offspring of the Amazons. It was a good issue and I’m really happy the art is back to how it started. I’m looking forward to seeing how Hell is depicted in the coming issues. 4/5
